The Glaciere Maritime Academy & Liverpool Community CollegeThe Glaciere is an 1899 Baltic Trader. One of the oldest tall ships in the world, it was used to carry stone between England and Denmark. The Glaciere was recovered as wreckage from the bed of Liverpool's Collingwood Dock in October 2003 and restored to its former glory six month later by a team of volunteers. Under the stewardship of David Murray, the rebirth of the Glaciere has provided opportunities for local unemployed young people to progress into the maritime industry through their involvement with the project. The Glaciere continues to support young people by making regular seafaring trips to encourage team working and communication skills. The project continues to develop its work with young people; dive and sail school; and links with the maritime industry through its partnership with Liverpool Community College. The Glaciere is berthed at Liverpool's famous Albert Dock and is a familiar site on the Liverpool skyline. It is fully operational and continues to sail across the Irish Sea.
