Mersey Maritime has completed delivery of its industry-led project, funded by the Department for Transport (DfT), which has explored ‘Navigating Maritime Innovation in the LCR’.
The formal project ran from December 2024 until March 2026 with the aim of showcasing our region’s global maritime ecosystem and its key assets, promoting collaboration and highlighting maritime innovation investment opportunities in the LCR both nationally and internationally.

Project Findings
Mersey Maritime has led an industry-driven programme exploring maritime innovation across the Liverpool City Region (LCR), supported by the Department for Transport’s Maritime Cluster Development Fund.
Our findings highlight a globally significant innovation ecosystem, underpinned by strong research, industrial capability, skills, and collaboration – positioning the LCR as one of the UK’s most innovation-dense maritime regions.
The programme showcases key regional assets and promotes opportunities for collaboration and investment at both national and international levels.
