With entries for the Mersey Maritime Awards 2018 now starting to come in organisers say they are ready to take the event on to the national stage in 2019.
The latest awards, to be held at Liverpool FC’s Anfield Stadium on March 8, will be the fourth and they promise to be “biggest and best yet”.
Liverpool city region is re-establishing itself as a national and global hub for the maritime sector and the 2018 awards will feature the National Impact Award which is open to companies across the UK.
Mersey Maritime chief executive Chris Shirling-Rooke now says the time is right to make the awards a national event in 2019. He said: “In the Liverpool city region alone the maritime sector is worth almost £4bn a year.
“That is not just about shipping. It covers a huge range of businesses from logistics to energy to financial services. We are a global leader in the sector and so we think it is appropriate to take our awards national and open it up to companies from across the UK in 2019.
“We know many of our own members are already competing nationally and internationally and we believe they will be ready to showcase themselves on a national level.”
The 2018 awards welcome back four ‘Diamond’ sponsors – Beech Group, Liverpool John Moores University, Peel Ports Group & Stream Marine Training (SMT). Each of the award categories are also fully sponsored. People wishing to attend can also now buy tickets for the event.
The theme for this year’s awards is ‘Making Waves Globally’ – based around the fact Liverpool city region is trading on a global scale and leading the way in terms of infrastructure investment, innovation, and connectivity both nationally and with the rest of the world.
There are now 12 award categories with the addition of the National Impact Award for 2018. As always, the judges will be considering who could be the potential candidate for this year’s Maritime Ambassador, taking the award total up to 13.
