The National Oceanography Centre (NOC), a marine research laboratory wholly owned by the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), brings together NERC’s Proudman Oceanographic Laboratory and the NERC-owned elements of the National Oceanography Centre, Southampton. Working in partnership with the UK marine community, it forms a new national research organisation, delivering integrated marine science and technology from the coast to ocean.
NOC’s research, alongside activities of surveying, monitoring, data management and forecasting, provides strategic support for the wider mission of the NERC.
NOC is based at Liverpool and Southampton.

It also runs the Irish Sea Observatory which aims to integrate real-time measurements with coupled models into a pre-operational coastal operational system.
