CAMMELL LAIRD CONSIDERS NEW DRY DOCK TO HANDLE WORLD’S BIGGEST SHIPS
In an interview with the Liverpool Echo this week, John Syvret, CEO of Cammell Laird, has revealed that the world famous shipyard on the banks of the River Mersey is considering investing more than £100m to build a massive new 400m x 60m dry dock that would be capable of servicing the world’s biggest ships. Cammell Laird is already home to the biggest dry dock on the west coast of Britain but sees a potential opportunity to service even larger ships once the new post-Panamax container terminal opens at Seaforth on the opposite side of the Mersey. The project could create jobs for hundreds of workers. The full article can be read here. www.clbh.co.uk/

COMPLETE SITE SAFETY LAUNCHES SISTER COMPANIES
Training company Complete Site Safety has announced the launch of two sister companies, Complete Recruitment and Complete Rope Access Solutions. Together, the three companies provide clients with a 360 solution to training, recruitment and rope access needs. Complete Recruitment looks to utilise its training database of highly qualified delegates and place them in roles within the renewable energy, oil and gas sectors. The nature of the company’s recruitment process means the majority of their candidates are recently qualified, which reduces the training costs incurred to businesses when they take on new staff. Complete Rope Access Solutions provides a wide range of rope access service including UAV drone surveying and inspection. The company recently provided emergency rope access cover and working at height training as part of Peel Ports’ super crane installation at the Liverpool2 container terminal. Tom Powell, Director, said: “These are very exciting times for The Complete Group. The two new sister companies have only been operating for just over a month and our clients are already realising the benefit of having one point of contact for such a wide range of services.” See www.completeropeaccesssolutions.co.uk and www.complete-recruitment.co.uk

WIRRAL COUNCIL’S £147K SUPPORT FOR CARMET MARINE
Carmet Marine, which acquired the former McTay’s shipyard in Bromborough in November last year, is set to expand into new areas of marine contracting following grant support from Wirral Council. The £147k grant will help the company to grow its business and create more than 30 jobs. The Carmet Tug Company, the parent company of Carmet Marine, plans to purchase land and assets to allow them to expand into maintenance and repairs, growing their business turnover by a potential £1.5m. The total costs for the project are just over £2 million. Cllr Phil Davies, leader of Wirral Council, said: “We are committed to growing the local economy and intervening to support local businesses that cannot access any other external funding to help them grow. […] This investment will enable Carmet to move into new areas of vessel maintenance, and eventually the design of new vessels, ensuring maritime jobs and expertise remain in operation in Wirral.“
Capt Brett Metcalfe, from Carmet Marine, said: “We have ambitious plans to grow our business and significantly enhance the company’s capacity and range of services into new, exciting areas that will help increase turnover and create new jobs. www.carmetmarine.co.uk
