The growth in numbers attending Mersey Maritime’s Export Club has been one of our success stories of 2016. Members were invited to join us for the last Export Club Breakfast of 2016 and hear from special guest Steven Jan van Hengel of the Port of Rotterdam Authority.
The Port Authority is responsible for maintaining the safe and smooth handling of all shipping, investing in the development of the existing port area, in new port sites, public infrastructure and in handling shipping. With more than 500 deep sea, short sea, feeder and RoRo liner services, the port of Rotterdam is linked to more than 1,000 ports worldwide. And, as the largest port in Europe, Rotterdam is the gateway to a European market of 500m consumers and a major hub for global freight. Steven talked about the port’s development, the Container and Ro-Ro set up and the port’s shortsea strategy for the next five years.
