To round off 2014 with a flourish, we gave our members Ms Emily McLaughlin, Counsellor for Investment & Economics with the High Commission of Canada to the United Kingdom as our guest speaker. Emily moved to London from Canada in 2011 and is the head of the Investment & Economics team in the High Commission that handles economic and trade policy, investment attraction into Canada, and the financial services sector. She is also responsible for the North West region of England.
Prior to her arrival, Emily was Senior Advisor for Innovation in the Calgary Regional Office of Foreign Affairs, Trade & Development Canada (DFATD). She has also worked as a Trade Commissioner covering the Information & Communications Technologies sector. From 2004 – 2007 Emily was assigned to the Permanent Mission of Canada to the United Nations, New York, where she was responsible political and security affairs in Africa and Europe. Her roles at headquarters in Ottawa have included assignments to the European Union division, the office of the Secretary of State for Africa, Latin America & the Francophonie, and the Mexico Division.
